AmsterDAMN

Wandering throughout one of the most infamous districts on the planet is the first thing most people think of when they think of Amsterdam. The Netherlands' capital city is one that is filled with a diversity of museums, a relaxed atmosphere and incredible canals. The countless amount of museums range from art galleries, historic exhibits such as the Anne Frank House and sex worker museums that illustrate the details of the world's oldest profession.
The Anne Frank House provided a lens into the tragedies associated with the Holocaust through sharing the experience of those who would have been the victims during this period. I had read her diary in school and learned about the second World War but seeing everything in a tangible status reinforced the significance of this period. I believe it is important that humanity acknowledges this era and continues to move towards a progressive, loving world.
Furthermore, a balance between nature and manmade concrete is reflected through the canals surrounding the city. The sight of water and greenery is accessible on every street; whether one is looking at the canals, trees or flowers. Amsterdam is known for their tulips but that is only a portion of their enormous flower market. I asked a lady how many types of flowers she thought there was in the flower district where I was purchasing white peonies, white roses and light pink daisies; "At least five hundred" she answered. The flower markets were definitely my favourite part of this gorgeous city.
